Matt and Daniel’s story began in 2014 with a spark of attraction, but life had other plans — Matt was a partier and Daniel was a homebody, and they moved in different circles. Seven years later, in December 2020, Daniel found the perfect excuse to reconnect by asking Matt to illustrate a piece featuring him, his best friend Freya, and their three cats, Billy, Nuggs, and Cleo — a move he later confessed was entirely intentional.

A few months later, Matt invited Daniel to his birthday party, enlisting his friends to play wingmen. The plan worked, and they shared their first kiss that night. After months of dating, Daniel officially asked Matt to be his boyfriend.

In 2022, they celebrated their one-year anniversary with a trip to Hervey Bay. By 2023, Matt moved in with Daniel and the cats, solidifying their little family. Then, in July 2024, Daniel insisted they go on a date to Golden Beach despite Matt feeling under the weather. The reason became clear when Daniel pulled out an engagement ring and proposed. They drove back to Brisbane to pick out a ring for Daniel, and just a month later, they bought a home together.

In October, they threw an engagement party and asked their closest friends to stand beside them as bridesmaids. Two months later, Matt surprised Daniel with an early Christmas gift — a tiny kitten named Boo, the newest member of their growing family.

Since January 2025, they’ve been deep in wedding planning, and with each passing day, the excitement for their big day only grows.
